Summer is here and our Faroh filly, Mocha Java Cheer, is taking advantage of the warmth and sunshine to romp and play in the pasture. She’s about ready for her second weaning - her first happened at one day old when her dam died from complications of a prolapsed uterus. Our mare Palida took Java as an adoption, and she’s been a terrific mom to this filly. Java is growing up confident and happy.
Weaning will probably be a bit stressful for her - it is for all of them - but she’s already been weaned off the milk bucket and is eating creep feed and pasture grass well. We’re very grateful to Palida for helping this filly grow up normally. She doesn’t have any of the issues that you would expect to find with orphan foals - other than her being just a little small for her age. But she’s growing up well, and for that, we’re thrilled.
