Palida is an exceptional athlete. She was campaigned through the U.S. Pony Club’s strong program of sport disciplines and showed a special apptitude for the cross country phase of eventing. She qualified for nationals in both cross country at the C-3 level. There are essentially 8 levels of proficiency in Pony Club, C-3 being the sixth one up. Palida is currently schooling at the B-Level (Level 7) in stadium jumping, and doing very well in First Level dressage. We hope to show her this fall in a couple of USDF local shows.
Palida is incredibly smart, and has a tremendous work ethic. When you ride her, you need to have a focused plan, because she has no patience for “standing around doing nothing.” She likes to go, and she has a great deal of forward drive. She particularly seems to enjoy anything that involves the games programs, and qualifed for Pony Club Nationals as a games horse two years in a row.
Palida’s unique color is caused by a relatively newly discovered dilution gene, called Champagne. It is a dominante gene which dilutes the hair color and causes the coat to shimmer in the sunlight. Palida was the first appaloosa in the United States recognized for carrying this particular color gene. Her hair coat is so bright that she must wear a flymask in the summer to prevent her face from being sunburned around her eyes.
Palida produced her first foal for GWF in the spring of 2007, and based on the way this filly looks and her exceptional disposition, this mare’s broodmare career promises to be as spectacular as she is.
