There’s just no way to take a pretty picture of a yearling, because yearlings just aren’t pretty as a rule.  Yearlings are the middle schoolers of the horse world, and their body parts are in different growth phases, so nothing quite fits, sort of like a middle school kid’s hands and feet being too big for the rest of him.

Still, it’s time to update Imani’s photographs, and since we believe in truth in advertising - here she is, in all her gawky, lanky, teenage glory.  She has the bone structure to make a really nice mare, and we know that she is going to grow up to be a lovely mare someday.  But today isn’t that day.

Her movement promises to put her in the ribbons as a scopey hunter mare, and she’s still as sweet and gentle a filly as you’d ever want to meet.  Her training is progressing nicely - she lunges and clips, and she trots in hand and stands up in the halter for conformation presentation.  We still have plans to take her to the show pen, and were hoping to do it her yearling year, but unless some miracle of yearling development happens that we haven’t heard of before, it looks like she’ll be on the shelf this season.  She’s just not pretty enough right now to be competitive.

She’s standing right at 15.2 hands right now, so she’s fulfilling the early promises she made to be a tall one.  And even though she’s gawky and lanky right now, she’s still not for sale.  She’s an ugly duckling that’s going to be a beautiful swan one of these days, and we’re perfectly happy being patient and waiting to see it happen.
